Egofolio is a tool to keep track of content you create at various websites on the internet.
OpenID is a free, de-centralized login system that allows you to use one "username" across many OpenID enabled sites. The username is a bit different than normal usernames because it's a URL that points to an OPenID provider. Egofolio uses OpenID exclusively for logins.
A delegate is a URL that can be used as your OpenID identity, but is separate from your actual OpenID provider. There is specific code in the header of the delegate URL that All profiles created on Egofolio.com are automatically setup as delegates to your OpenID.
You can use your egofolio homepage as you ID for other OpenID enabled sites. Just use www.egofolio.com/member_name as your ID. You will still login using your openid provider, but anyone searching for information about you using this URL will find your egofolio profile. The advantage of using a delegate is that if you decide to change OpenID providers you can continue to use your delegate ID, but it just refers to your new provider.
Egofolio will automatially attempt to locate available RSS feeds on the links you enter. Your Egofolio profile generates an RSS feed that combines the data from all of your other feeds, providing a single source where people can find out about you.
All you need is an OpenID. Optional information is requested; nickname and fullname are used to attempt to give you a nicer default username, and your email address is requested to get an avatar from Gravatar.
Your email address is only used to request your avatar from the Gravatar service. It's not visible anywhere on the website except in your private profile. We will not sell your email address or use it to spam you with unwanted email.
Gravatar stands for Globally Recognized Avatar. It's a service that allows you to set up one avatar and usit across any sites that are Gravatar enabled. Its' a really cool sevice and used exclusive for avatars on Egofolio. There's a default avatar provided for any members who choose not to set up a Gravatar.
Not really. It's more about organizing information about yourself into one central point, for others to see. You can keep track of your friends in the friends list (creating a custom news feed just for you) but it's not intended for use as a "look at my six-thousand friends!" manner. :) Of course, if you have six-thousand close friends, then by all means go for it! :)
Not yet. But it's on it's way. In the spirit of sharing, Egofolio plans to allow you to pull your information into any other application, just like we pull avaliable data from other applications.
